Today’s Life in Bloom Episode- is filled with Flower Frogs- and we dive into Flower Lessons- with various different types… we have Glass, Ceramic, Pin Frogs- and Metal Flower Frogs… We’ll explore each of these types- and demonstrate how to create Flower Arrangements in each!
Lesson 1- the Glass Flower Frog… Glass flower frogs- are typically round in shape and have holes in the glass… these Flower Frogs are meant to set on top of a Vase- and thus have a rim or ridge on the bottom to ensure a secure fit. We’ll use this type of flower frog on top of a clear glass cylinder and use some Lavender and White flowers in this arrangement- featuring Suntory’s Blue Applause® Rose and Moon Series Mini carnations along with some Lavender Edged Dahlias from my friend Craig at Z Farms!

Lesson 2 - with Pin Frogs- and my Flower Friend Jenn Pascua- I refer to her as my Good Luck Charm- as she has been in every season of J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom- so I like to her also call her my Perrenial Guest- the one that comes back every year… Just like the Perrenials in my Garden. Jenn and I both create Flower Arrangements with Pin Frogs… Jenn has a single pin frog in a Vintage Haeger Ashtray that actually works really well at holding a flower frog- stable- and Jenn creates one of her favorite arrangements - from our Life in Bloom Series. I have a pin frog- that is in a wreath form- and it’s new on the market… I found it on line- and I was excited to use it in this episode- you’ll get to see how it turns out as well… And of Course- Jenn get’s a Flower Crown too!

The Featured Flower for this week- is a Traditional Flower of Columbia- the Inirida - or commonly called “Stella” … this is a very unique flower- that is grown in Colombia South America- and is a cluster of Red Toned Spikes- the flowers is very unique and unusual- and will dry very well… Check out this NEW to YOU Flower we spotlight in this Episode of Life in Bloom! The Stella Flowers in this show- were provided by my Flower Friend Kristin- at Gardens America- THANK YOU Kristin for sharing this unique flower with us!

Lesson 3 features a Special Wire Flower Frog from my extensive collection- I have lots of flower frogs- and this one is special- it fits nicely into this vintage Ikebana container- and uniquely - the Flower Frog actually expands to create a bigger structure that will make it easier to arrange in… it can also reduce for smaller arrangements- which makes it versatile… This arrangement has some Queeny Zinnias- again grown by my friend Craig at Z Farms. This arrangement also includes Wheat Celosia, Midori Spray roses- and Double Hellebores from our Friends at FabulousFlorals.com- our Closed Caption Underwriter.

Lesson 4 - uses a Ceramic Flower Frog- in a Glass Container- I chose this container- to be clear- so you can see how this arrangement goes together. There are so many different types of Ceramic Flower Frogs- in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colors and even themes… This one is such a love color of aqua- and using delicate flowers- in this arrangement - makes it restful and relaxing… as all Flower Frogs- are compelled to do for us- when we take our time and enjoy the flower arranging process- and breathe in the health and wellness benefits of Flower Arranging… Enjoy! This arrangement includes Sweet Pea and White Tweedia- from FabulousFlorals.com - and also delicate Maiden Hair Fern from our Foliage friends at Shaw Lake Farms!

We have a Special “Flower Frog” Cocktail and Mocktail- that was inspired by my Friend Ed Kenney- from Mud Hen Water- in Honolulu Hawaii- when we visited Ed and his acclaimed Restaurant during our Hawaii Filming- he brought us a wonderful 0-Proof Mocktail- that includes Fresh Limes, Lime Soda - and Parsley Juice- you can add Vodka too… It’s truly a Light- Airy Summertime drink- that can be A Flower Cocktail or Mocktail… it’s a beautiful drink… and it’s fun to make! Follow this Link- to the Flower Cocktail Hour Recipe for this “FLOWER FROG Inspired Cocktail-Mocktail!

This weeks’ Flowers from You- are from Ruth Levanduski from my Home Town Grand Rapids Michigan- and she watches on WGVU - her arrangements are created in Flower Frogs- and they are wonderful addition to the Flower Frog Lessons- featured in this episode!
